VideoLan and IFF sent a notice in October to MeitY asking for answers about the sudden ban.MeitY responded and said that the VLC Player had displayed ” suspicious behaviour”. This was in response to a China-backed hacking organization called Cicada . It was accused of accessing users’ personal data and threatening their privacy. This information was derived from Symantec’s April 2015 report.VideoLan denied such claims.
Jean-Baptiste Kempf, the company’s president and chief developer, claimed that the ban was a result of a misinterpretation.Kempf stressed the fact that VLC Player is used by approximately 80 million people.
